Albert “Bert” Watson Newton received a state funeral worthy of a legend in November 2021. Dubbed the “King of Australian television,” the quadruple Gold Logie winner was farewelled with a mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral attended by colleagues, family, and friends. He is survived by his wife Patti McGrath, their daughter Lauren, and their son Matthew.
Prior to his demise, the family was working on renovating their Melbourne abode. They were converting the garage into a living space and making the residence wheelchair-friendly.
