Naga Munchetty

Naga Munchetty is a prominent English television presenter, journalist, and newsreader, best known for her regular appearances on BBC Breakfast. She has also hosted BBC World News and BBC Two’s financial program Working Lunch. Munchetty hails from Streatham in South London, where she was raised by her mother Muthu, originally from Tamil Nadu, India, and her father, who is from Mauritius.

The couple met while studying in Wales, with her mother pursuing dentistry and her father training to become a nurse. They married in London in 1974, despite their families’ lack of approval. Munchetty has one younger sister, born in 1976. She attended Graveney School in Tooting and later graduated from the University of Leeds in 1997 with a degree in English Literature and Language. Her career began in journalism, working on the City Pages at the London Evening Standard, followed by a stint in the Business Section of The Observer.
